An End

Once upon a time,
A fairy tale came undone,
as gradually as the seasons change,
as surely as life ends.
That was the beginning.
Like a rope knotted
together from strands of wispy threads
becomes frayed
at the beginning and the end,
the neat middle being stretched taut,
Only to be torn apart–
Like some clichéd couple
Beloved in separation,
Faithful in their fragile deceptions;
Or like watching an old film,
Repeated with increasing wariness,
(Deception leads to faith)
And an incomplete darkness waits.

  1. that's something in the nature of every relationship... torn apart and knotted up again... sometimes making them stronger than before, and sometimes weaker.
You've put this truth so beautifully that one is bound to recall this to oneself in a new revelatory manner! Love it! :)
